The Internet is great, isn’t it? You can literally become famous (or infamous) around the world just by posting a video online. It doesn’t necessarily matter about the quality of your camera or your editing capabilities, nope, websites like YouTube are showcasing aspiring filmmakers from around the globe. Motion magazine was so struck by one YouTube user, that we requested an interview with him. Known by most people around the world as ‘CopperCab’, an American filmmaker who wants to change the world, starting with the prejudice against ginger haired people and bullying. People have claimed his videos are ‘fake’; he sets the record straight (ok?).
How long have you been making videos?
“Since I was a little kid.”
What first interested you about filmmaking?
“The idea of it being an outlet for me to record my feelings and express myself in a way it could be viewed by many others to view and reply to my opinions.”
One of your videos, ‘Gingers Have Souls’, has made you quite an internet phenomenon, can you tell me why you made it in the first place?
“Uh yeah I dont know about internet phenomenon! [Laughs] but I mean it was just to put myself out there.. people were messing with me at school and I decided to just vent on youtube..”
What sort of response did you receive from it?
“Just a lot of hate, and some support which is all I care about now.. the supporters.”
Has your internet fame changed your life?
“Aside from being flown out to California every month or so.. hasn’t changed my life at all. Oh it did stop a lot of bullying at school, people started to want to be my friend but i was like f**k you and I would walk away.. it’s like they just wanted to be my friend because Im well known on the internet.”
You’ve mentioned in some of your previous YouTube videos that you’re making a rap video, how’s that going? Any new news, or a release date?
“Yeah the rap video is coming out soon, I know it’s been coming along slowly but trust me, I am working on it.. It’s a lot of work being put into it.. it’s very professional and well edited.”
I saw that you have been doing some work in California. What were you doing there?
“Working with friends on a collaboration video/ channel for comedy.. I don’t want to just do rants on youtube you know? I want to do comedy as well”
Some people have expressed a claim that your videos are fake. What do you say to that?
“They’re not f**cking fake I tell people they aren’t but some think i am! I don’t care they’re just trolls OK?”
OK, What are your plans for 2011?
“New videos, comedy skits, rap videos, one freestyle rap video where it’s raw and unedited, also some Runescape update videos”
Do you have a message to your fans or the people who don’t support you?
“To my fans, I love you guys from the bottom of my heart and soul.. but my haters? They can f**ck off”
